Yes, they do need to move Phil Kessel. His cap hit is reasonable, for the rest of this year and next. He is not a leader, but is a gifted sniper. He needs leaders around him, to take away the pressure from this market. Since this team is so young and is rebuilding.......again... his talents are being wasted. I believe that he'll bolt, once he's able to hit unrestricted free agency. Now is the time to make the move, since the Leafs have lost their other sniper, Joffrey Lupul, for most of the rest of the regular season.

This team is going nowhere. It's a great draft year and if they have to go to the bottom, to get that franchise player. This is the year! Kessel could net us another first rounder and a good roster player. Now is not the time to bring in more over the hill veteran's, that won't be here in the next year or two. Time to just let this season playout and take our rations at the draft table.

wow you guys seem pretty anxious to get rid of him. i would love the pens to look into him. however, the thought of paying him 8 million a year is laughable

Leafs might be trying to do what the kings did to Dustin Brown. A shot in the arm.

The decision to be made by Nonis and the Leafs management team is what path to take for the club over the balance of the season, with players like Tim Connolly, MacArthur and Bozak, who are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season and for Kessel and team captain Dion Phaneuf, who are under contract till the end of the 2013-14 season.

If the Leafs philosophy is to go through a proper rebuilding program, then trading some or all of these players makes the most sense.

Connolly cleared waivers, my wing-gorging friend.

Not much of a decision needs to be made. You can't trade him, and you sure as hell aren't going to re-sign him.

Yes, Leafs logic dictates, that they win the games that they are supposed to lose and lose the games that they're supposed to win. I hope not, because tomorrow, the fanbase will be back at planning the Stanley Cup parade route, while today they're talking about picking first in the draft. I think the latter is closer to reality.

kessel has had a slow start, big deal.....he always comes through. This is a young player who has done exceptionally well in goals and points every year he has played in the NHL. If the Leafs trade him it should be to finally get the Kessel trade distraction over, for the benefit of the team and player! The Toronto media has been relentless with this young man and he deserves better. The fact that he could demand 7 or 8 million as stated in this article says it all. There are no gaurantees in the draft, and if Toronto gives up on Phil for draft picks they are again throwing the dice while they watch a quality/young star player walk.

That said, Kessel for Kane and a pick.
